By 2017 over 132 billion business emails will be sent and received each day, according the Radicati Group. That prediction emphasizes the importance of effective business writing skills.
Consider the implications of the email subject line. The words you choose determine whether your message will be read or taken seriously by your boss, coworkers and customers. A former boss requested that I begin every email subject line with one of three phrases followed by a colon and the topic of the message:
- Input Needed
- Action Required
This simple request forced my coworkers and me to write specific email subject lines and helped him quickly sort and identify important email messages. I’ve shared this tip in some of my training courses and many managers have successfully adopted this practice.
