Your Attention, Please

The greatest gift you can give when meeting someone new is your attention. Center your attention on the other person as the conversation develops. Make the spotlight on you and you’ll miss opportunities for friendships, jobs, relationships, networking and sales opportunities. Take our advice:

  • Pay close attention when the person shares his or her name.
  • Use the person’s name to make the conversation more personal.
  • Ask questions to make the other person feel special and create a positive environment.
  • Use good listening skills by playing back what you hear, maintaining eye contact and giving positive verbal cues.

The ultimate goal is to build, cultivate and maintain strong, high-quality and long-standing relationships. You can only accomplish this with one person at a time… so pay attention!
